30 Farmers participated in Fruit Trees and Vegetable Farming Training

November 03, 2022 – 30 Representatives from Farmers Associations of Paquibato District and 4 barangays of Calinan District were given Fruit Trees and Vegetable Farming Training by Peace 911 and City Agriculturist’s Office (CAgrO) at Pañalum Gymnasium, Paquibato District, Davao City.

The Peace 911 along with the City Agriculturist’s Office (CAgrO) conducted a training called “Fruit Trees and Vegetable Farming Training” last November 03, 2022 at Pañalum Gymnasium, Paquibato District. The training was attended by 30 representatives from Farmers Associations of the 13 barangays of Paquibato District and 4 barangays of Calinan District. 

In line with the Peace 911 focused programs- Strengthening People’s Organization and Peace Economy, the purpose of this training is to strengthen the Farmers Association’s knowledge and skills about farming by growing fruit trees and vegetables successfully to provide healthy and sustainable lifestyle to their community. 

Mr. Leo Aranas from the CAgrO tackled about how to grow and nurture fruit trees. He explained about the different ways of raising fruit trees and its benefits. In the area of Paquibato and Calinan District, fruits that are rampant within their area are Mangoes, Durians, Banana, Cacaos and Coconuts. Mr. Aranas also showed the participants the proper steps of planting fruit trees and how to harvest it. 

On the other hand, Mr. Felmar M. Carpe and Ms. Ofelia S. Mantapidao from CAgrO also discussed about the importance of vegetable and its nutritional value, the ideal topography for vegetable production, different variation of vegetables, crop establishment- planting/transplanting, spoil and fertilizer management, harvesting management, insect pests and diseases and disease management. The common vegetables in their area are Corn, Carrots, Pumpkin, Potato, Beans, Eggplant and etc.

By providing this training, it is expected that the farmers will be able to learn more about the basics of fruit tree and vegetable farming and improve their agricultural crops that can make an impact to the community by providing foods, creating sustainable livelihood and building strong economy through selling and exporting their products. It is also hoped that they will pass their skills and knowledge to the children and to the future generation.

2. “Ipadayon ang training arun ma laluman pa ang among kaphibalo.”
3. “Wala nakoy ma sulti pa tungod mayo ug sakto, ditalyado ang ilang pagpasabot.”.
