WOMEN OF ATA TRIBE RECEIVE DRESSMAKING TRAINING

For the preservation of Ata Tribe culture – the PEACE 911 IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TESDA XI  conducted a four (4) day dressmaking training to the women of Ata tribe in Brgy. Pandaitan, Paquibato District last AUGUST 15-18, 2022.

Throughout the years, the women of Ata Tribe have played a vital role in the economic growth of Paquibato District, Davao City. Their economic participation promotes productivity and enhances business management and returns on investments of the community. As to which, they generate peaceful and stable societies which are also important factors of economic expansion.

To foster prosperous economy within the Paquibato District, the Peace 911 in collaboration with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) XI through the “Sustain and Uphold our Traditional Attire (SUOTA) Project”, identified Dressmaking Training as one of the interventions for sustainable development programs intended for the women of Ata ICCs/IPs.

The said training aims to preserve and advocate the traditional dress of the Ata tribe community whilst making profit. It also desires to enhance and strengthen the skills of the Ata women, for them to have the finest products that they could use to advertise and market. By selling numerous amounts of their finished products, not only they could provide for their respective families, but they could also help their community advance in socio economic development.

To support their livelihoods, the City Government of Davao through Peace 911 donated three (3) sewing machines and Php 30,000 worth of starter kits. The Tagum Agricultural Development Company, Inc. (TADECO) Livelihood Association also donated two (2) sewing machines. In addition, the said association also purchase the products of the Ata women.

The beneficiaries of the SOUTA training were very grateful to the initiative given by the Davao City Peace 911 and TESDA XI, for it reinforced their confidence and mastery in dressmaking.
