GOOD GOVERNANCE AND THE RULE OF LAW TRAINING

As Peace 911 serves as an implementing arm of the peacebuilding program of the City Government of Davao in the identified focus areas- Paquibato and Calinan District, the office is committed to implement the five (5) priority programs which are the: Peace Economy, Good Governance and the Rule of Law, Identity and Healing, Strengthening People’s Organization and Ancestral Domain.

To execute these 5 programs, the Peace 911 started the Good Governance and the Rule of Law Training to the 17 barangays which are the Barangay Lumiad, Barangay Tapak, Barangay Fatima, Barangay Salapawan, Barangay Malabog, Barangay Mabuhay, Barangay Sumimao, Barangay Mapula, Barangay Paradise Embac, Barangay Pañalum, Barangay Paquibato Proper, Barangay Pandaitan and Barangay Colosas of Paquibato District and Barangay Dominga, Barangay Saloy, and Barangay Inayangan, Barangay Megkawayan of Calinan District.

 

The above-mentioned barangays were trained on a different schedule and venue. The participants were barangay officials and presidents of some organizations of the following sectors: farm sector, faith-based sector, indigenous people sector, youth sector, women sector, education sector, commercial sector, industrial sector, health sector, cooperative sector, fisheries sector, transport sector and private sector.

The training intends to prepare and equip the participants to plan for their respective districts. It aims to foster critical understanding of the concepts, issues and practices to be able to further improve the collaborative governance system at the same time sharing the ambitions of the local community to strengthen livelihoods and have peaceful neighborhood.

It is to primarily determine existing situation and analyze using standards and other means of measurement to come up with identification of needs and corresponding interventions.

To be able to specify which direction will they be taking for planning projects and activities for their communities, Ms. Irene M. Santiago, the facilitator, introduced the 8 pillars of positive peace.

  4. Maayong Relasyon sa mga Silingan
  5. Sakto ang Prinsipyo sa pag Negosyo
  6. Taas ang Abilidad, Kahimsug ug Edukasyon sa mga Tao
  7. Maayong Pag Bahin-Bahin sa Kabtangan ug Bahandi sa Nasud
  8. Libre o walay Bikil ang Pag Hatag sa Impormasyon    

As a result of these 8 pillars of Positive Peace, barangays can progress their ability to plan and formulate strategies and techniques for the amelioration not only to the barangay office but also to the community for the preceding years to come.
