CONTINUING PEACE THROUGH SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

MAY 19, 2022 – THE PEACE CARAVAN WITH ITS THEME “CONTINUING PEACE THROUGH SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT” WAS ATTENDED BY 15 VARIOUS GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE AGENCIES, EXTENDING THEIR SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITIES OF PEACE 911 FOCUS AREAS.

In its efforts to continue and sustain peacebuilding program for the conflict-affected areas, the Peace 911 organized the Peace Caravan activity last May 19, 2022 at Brgy. Malabog Gym, Paquibato District, Davao City. This is to conduct various initiatives geared toward peacebuilding and development for the communities within its focus areas.

This activity aims to provide effective convergence and public service delivery directly to the people in far-flung communities of Paquibato and Calinan District. It is the Peace 911’s ingenuity to ensure to the community the city’s commitment to public service and to bring the government closer to the people especially in geographically isolated areas.

The Peace Caravan was led by the guest speakers, Mr. Jessielito Areja – Punong Barangay of Barangay Malabog, Mr. Benjamin Lizada – Peace Committee Member and Ms. Irene Santiago- Peace Adviser of the City Mayor, who welcomed the participants and provided a brief background of the event, Ms. Mary Aileen Mabanding- Peace 911 Focal Person, who introduced the participating national, local and private offices and the Punong Barangays of the 17 focus areas (Barangay Lumiad, Barangay Fatima, Barangay Malabog, Barangay Mapula, Barangay Pañalum, Barangay Colosas, Barangay Tapak, Barangay Salapawan, Barangay Mabuhay, Barangay Paquibato Proper, Barangay Sumimao, Barangay Paradise Embac, and Barangay Pandaitan of Paquibato District and Barangay Dominga, Barangay Megkawayan, Barangay Inayangan, Barangay Saloy of Calinan District), Colonel Alberto Lupaz – Davao City Police Office Director and Police Major Joenel Pederio – Station Commander of Paquibato District Police Station who discussed about safety and security, and a special message from the City Mayor of Davao, Hon. Sara Z. Duterte.

During the Caravan, there were 15 various government and private agencies namely, City Planning Development Office (CPDO), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) XI, Davao City Police Office, 10th Infantry Division of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Technical Education And Skills Development Authority (TESDA) XI, City Civil Registrar’s Office (CCRO), Public Employment Service Office (PESO), City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC), City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO), City Health Office (CHO), City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC), City Agriculturist Office (CAgO), Ata Tribe Indigenous Political Structure-Ancestral Domain Management Office (IPS-ADMO), City Information Office (CIO) and Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) have provided basic services to the community.

CITY AGRICULTURIST OFFICE (CAGO), CAGO discussed about the food security and crop zonification. They also distributed seeds and fruit trees such as Cacao, Durian, Corn and Vegetables.

CITY ANTI-DRUG ABUSE COUNCIL (CADAC), CADAC provided drug awareness to the participants, strategies for drug supply reduction, drug demand reductions and what are the alternatives to prevent and control drug abuse in the community.

CITY TOURISM OFFICE (CTOO) , CTOO tackled to the participants about community-based eco cultural tourism which promotes effective tourism products and services.

DAVAO CITY INVESTMENT PROMOTION CENTER (DCIPC) Similar to CTOO, DCIPC promoted eco-tourism in Paquibato and Calinan area thru generating investments and elevate economic interests.

CITY ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES (CENRO), CENRO talked about quarry awareness, solid waste management and distribution of planning materials thru preservation and protection of outstanding natural resources.

CITY HEALTH OFFICE (CHO), The CHO offered free x-ray screening who have lung problems and also offered booster shots to the participants.

PUBLIC EMPLOYMENT SERVICES OFFICE (PESO), PESO introduced skills mapping to the interested participants and Pre-Employment Orientation. The participants explored various employment options and seek assistance they prefer.

TECHNICAL EDUCATION AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (TESDA), TESDA had a demonstration to the participants regarding the livelihood programs such as motorcycle preventive maintenance and liter of light. They ensure to provide programs geared towards technical education and skills development and certification system.

DEPARTMENT OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY (DTI), DTI presented to the participants the Negosyo Center Program or the “GO NEGOSYO ACT” which promotes business and facilitating access to services for MSMEs which foster job opportunities in the region.

PHILIPPINE NATIONAL POLICE OFFICE (PNP), The PNP talked about safety and security to the participants. They discussed ways to prevent and control crimes and maintain peace and order. They also had a free hair cut to the participants.

ARMED FORCES OF THE PHILIPPINES (AFP), AFP spoke about preserving peace and harmony by defending the community against terrorism and any other forms of threat. Similar to the PNP, they also had a free haircut and talked to the aspiring AFP participants.

DAVAO LIGHT AND POWER COMPANY (DLPC), DPLC as the only private office in the event, they addressed the issues and concerns of the participants regarding power line interruption and they also gave an orientation of RA 11361 or Anti Obstruction to Power Lines Act.

INDIGENOUS PEOPLE (IPS)/ ANCESTRAL DOMAIN MANAGEMENT OFFICE(ADMO)/ ATA WOMEN, The ATA Tribe showcased their accessories and weaving products to the participants to promote their culture and community.

The Peace 911, as gatekeeper of projects and implementing arm of peacebuilding programs, ensures to continue this kind of activities to provide excellent public service to the community and to impart government services to the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas.
